While we prefer the casual, laid-back atmosphere of our Social Media Training Center and the small workshop sizes we have, we understand that setting doesn’t work for every group. With that in mind, we do offer to speak at other locations. We primarily speak on social media for businesses and non-profits, focusing on social media principles that are fairly timeless. Rather than emphasizing tips and tricks that will change as algorithms are updated, we help people to understand the larger concepts behind how various platforms work and which people use them.
Because of our unique professional and personal backgrounds, we also speak on a variety of other topics (organizational styles, women entrepreneurs, time management as a creative business, family/work balance, creativity, blogging, WordPress, networking, working with family, branding, keeping your point-of-view/personality, the importance of YOU in your business).
Our speaking style:
Our preferred speaking style is casual, laid-back, and highly interactive. We know that people learn best when interacting with the subject matter multiple times and in a number of different formats. We prefer to set up any speaking engagement in a way that will maximize learning; we want everyone to get their money’s worth and to really feel they’ve gained something valuable with the time they spend. Once again, we understand that differing venues/purposes/group size/etc. will have an impact on the style we use. If you choose to contact us about a speaking engagement, we will discuss all of these aspects and come up with the best format for your specific needs.
We will never, ever use POWERPOINT. Actually, we prefer to go completely “media-free” during our speaking engagements (some subject matter does prevent this from being a real possibility). Why? Technology, when not used incredibly carefully during a speaking engagement, is simply distracting. Powerpoint requires attendees to focus on the projection rather on the words we are speaking. Handouts are often perused when important content is being verbally shared. And often times, speakers rely on well-done media presentations to carry the event rather than on their own speaking ability. Instead of connecting well with the people they are sharing among, presenters simply make sure they get through all the content they’ve prepared.
We would rather cover less content in a meaningful, interactive way than more content using a method that is not beneficial!
Basically, expect us to be a little different than the traditional presenters. Expect us to surprise you. And expect your attendees to appreciate our style and learn useful information that they actually implement in the future.
Our fees vary…sometimes drastically.
We don’t like the idea of being on the road constantly, and frankly don’t have the time for it, so we keep the number of speaking engagements we commit to low. Because of the small number of engagements we have, we haven’t needed a consistent pricing structure (YET!). We simply need to feel that the speaking engagement is worth it to us, and that we aren’t over-charging you either. What does that mean realistically?
- The longer the speaking engagement (1/2 hour vs. all day), and the more preparation required, the more we charge. Makes sense, right?
- Non-profits have lower fees. We have strong ties to non-profits, so it takes much less for us to feel it is worth our time to speak for them. For non-profits near us, we are sometimes willing to speak at no cost. Contact us.
- The closer you are to Stillwater, the less we charge. We need to count in travel time and costs when we determine the fee for speaking. This means that we will charge more for a speaking engagement 4 hours away than one within 20 minutes. That’s just fair.
- If your event is someplace ridiculously beautiful, we will charge less. We find travelling to a stunning beach or Napa Valley wine country much more valuable than Cleveland, Ohio. Sorry Cleveland, but you just aren’t gorgeous. If you ask us to go someplace fabulous, we can negotiate fees. We’ve been known to charge only expenses if it’s beautiful enough!
We still didn’t give you a price!
We know. That’s cheating a little, isn’t it? The truth is, we can’t stamp a price on our speaking events. There are just too many factors. Just know that if you’re budget is $0 and you’re a non-profit, you should still contact us. If your budget is $100 and you are nearby, contact us. If your budget is higher, contact us. We’ll chat. We’ll decide together what a fair fee is. And we’ll both be very happy.
